Fulton County commissioners declare March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 24 adopted a proclamation recognizing March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and commended the observance to county residents. The proclamation, approved by motion of Commissioner Hervey P. Hann, affirms that “Fulton County becomes a better place when people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.”
Human Services Director Julie Dovey and representatives from local providers attended the signing. Attendees included Marissa Hockenberry (Occupational Services Inc.), Erica Ramsey (CRI), Rebecca Weaver (Franklin/Fulton IDD Program Specialist), staff and residents of Full Circle Residence, and multiple representatives from The Arc of Franklin/Fulton Counties. A group photograph was taken with the commissioners following the proclamation.
The board took the proclamation as a formal recognition rather than a binding policy action; no follow-up motion to change county programs or budgets was recorded. Commissioners said the proclamation was intended to raise awareness of supports and services available to people with developmental disabilities in Fulton County. The meeting record notes the commissioners unanimously executed the proclamation.
