Buffalo County Board of Equalization approves several motor-vehicle tax exemptions and will hear property valuation protests

During a brief Board of Equalization session on April 26, Buffalo County commissioners approved motor vehicle tax exemptions and decided the board itself will conduct 2022 property valuation protest hearings.
The board approved three motor-vehicle tax exemptions submitted by County Treasurer Jean Sidwell: a 1999 Cara trailer for the American Red Cross; a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan for Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska; and a 2022 Ford E450 Cutaway for RYDE Transit. Each exemption was approved by roll call vote.
On the property valuation process, the board voted to forego the referee process and hear the 2022 property valuation protests directly. Commissioners Bill Maendele, Myron Kouba, Timothy Higgins, Daniel Lynch and Sherry Morrow voted Aye; Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz voted Nay.
The minutes do not include the number of protests expected or any schedule for hearings; the board adjourned the equalization session and returned to the regular meeting at 9:40 a.m.
