Board of Equalization approves and denies a string of permissive tax-exemption applications

At its March 8 session the Board of Equalization approved multiple Bryan Hospital Kearney exemptions and Heather Santiago LLC, denied applications from the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, RAFT and Christian Heritage Children's Home, and denied CHI Health-Good Samaritan with one abstention.
The Buffalo County Board of Equalization met March 8 as part of the County Board's agenda and considered a series of permissive property tax exemption applications.
Chairman Ivan Klein opened hearings for Bryan Hospital Kearney (personal property and two parcels) and, with no speakers present to address the Board, the Board approved the applications and recorded each parcel as 100% exempt. The Board then heard applications filed by the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society on two parcels and denied both exemption requests after no one addressed the Board.
The Board approved an exemption application filed by Heather Santiago LLC for parcel 603684000 as 100% exempt. The Residential Assistance to Families in Transition (RAFT) application for parcel 602563000 was heard and denied. The CHI Health — Good Samaritan application for parcel 601995000 was denied with Commissioners Lynch, Higgins, Kouba, Loeffelholz, Morrow and Klein voting "Aye" and Commissioner Bill Maendele recorded as abstaining.
Roy Baldwin of Christian Heritage Children's Home addressed the Board during that application's hearing; the Board denied the Christian Heritage Children's Home exemption application for parcel 560006016 by roll call vote. The Board also approved Tax List Corrections numbered 4857 through 4861 and later approved a motor vehicle tax exemption renewal for First Baptist Church of Kearney (2002 Ford) as submitted by County Treasurer Jean Sidwell.
The Board recorded roll call votes for each decision and returned to the regular Board of Commissioners meeting at 10:12 A.M.
