Buffalo County approves $76,800 local match for RYDE Transit grant application

Transportation Director Charles McGraw of the Community Action Partnership of Mid Nebraska reviewed the funding requirements and asked the Board to approve a local match that would allow RYDE Transit to apply for Section 5311 Federal Transit Act funds and Nebraska Public Transportation Assistance Program support. The Board adopted Resolution 2022-03 following a motion by Commissioner Daniel Lynch, seconded by Commissioner Timothy Higgins.
The resolution instructs RYDE Transit to apply for the funds and identifies the $76,800 local funding amount for FY2022-2023 operations. The Board recorded all seven commissioners voting "Aye." The Board did not attach additional conditions to the authorization beyond the standard application process and the requirement that funds be used for RYDE Transit operations in the stated fiscal year.
The approval allows RYDE Transit to proceed with the grant application process; county staff or the transit provider will be responsible for submitting required application materials and complying with any federal or state reporting requirements tied to Section 5311 funds.
Next steps: RYDE Transit will prepare and submit the FY2022-2023 application to the appropriate federal and state agencies. The Board did not set any separate contingency or additional funding conditions during the March 8 meeting.
