Buffalo County commissioners authorized an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Kearney for shared construction costs on West Talmadge Street and 30th Avenue and accepted a low bid for a separate county road project at their Sept. 26 meeting.
The board voted unanimously to authorize Chairperson Ivan H. Klein to sign the Interlocal Agreement that sets terms for financing, construction and recordkeeping for street improvements that sit both inside and outside Kearney's corporate limits (Resolution 2023-50). The agreement delegates funding for improvements outside municipal limits to Buffalo County and directs the County Clerk to retain the agreement as a public record.
On road procurement, Highway Superintendent John Maul and the Road Committee reviewed bids for Project No. C10 (1006) Gibbon Road Clay Topping and the board accepted the low bid from Adams Construction Co. of Arapahoe, Nebraska in the amount of $392,927.50 after a motion by Commissioner Daniel Lynch and second by Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz. The record shows a unanimous roll-call vote in favor.
Bids for 2024 Asphalt Overlay projects were read aloud by County Clerk Christensen and Chris Miller of Miller & Associates; submissions from Vontz Paving, Inc. and Werner Construction, Inc. will be reviewed by the Road Committee and Highway Superintendent Maul with a recommendation to come to the Oct. 10 meeting.
The board’s approvals are administrative commitments; project-specific schedules, funding sources and implementation details will be set through the interlocal agreement and subsequent contracting steps.
