Board adopts 2025 meeting schedule, re-adopts electronic participation policy

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 13 adopted a resolution fixing the Board’s 2025 meeting schedule and re-adopted a policy for participation in public meetings through electronic communication.

The resolution sets the Board’s regular meeting for the second Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M. in the General District Courtroom and establishes the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 P.M. for presentations and work sessions. The resolution also allows the chairman (or vice chair if the chairman is unavailable) to continue a regular meeting to the seventh day following the scheduled meeting when hazardous weather or other conditions make attendance unsafe, consistent with Section 15.2-1416 of the Code of Virginia.

Separately, staff presented the Board’s Policy for Participation in Public Meeting Through Electronic Communication. The policy permits remote participation in limited circumstances—temporary or permanent disability, principal residence more than 60 miles from the meeting location, or a verifiable personal matter—provided the Chair approves and the reason and remote location are recorded in the minutes. The policy also explains procedures for meetings during a declared state of emergency, including public notice and public access requirements.

County staff said the text is unchanged from the 2024 policy aside from updated dates; Ms. Seay noted the highlighted portion in the draft was an oversight and did not reflect a substantive change. The Board adopted the policy by unanimous vote.

The adopted schedule notes one calendar change: the October regular meeting moves to Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, because the regular date falls on Columbus Day, and the November meeting moves to Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, because of the VACo conference.
