Henderson council approves city manager contract, law-firm MOU and accepts election results

Henderson — The City Council unanimously approved a set of governance items at its Dec. 29 special meeting, including the employment contract for City Manager Paylor Spruill, a memorandum of understanding for the city attorney role, and a resolution accepting official municipal election results.
City Manager Paylor Spruill told the council that City Attorney Dan Hartzog Jr. drafted the city manager’s employment contract and noted the cost was lower than prior contracts. Councilmember Garry D. Daeke moved to approve Resolution 25-56 approving the employment contract; Councilmember Tami Walker seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The minutes record the yes votes as Coffey, Noel, Seifert, Venable, Daeke, Thorpe-Cooper, Walker and Champion.
Mr. Spruill also presented a Memorandum of Understanding from the Hartzog Law Group for the city attorney position. Councilmember Daeke moved approval of Resolution 25-57; Councilmember Michael Venable seconded, and council approved the MOU unanimously.
The council also accepted the official results of the Oct. 7 municipal election and subsequent Nov. 4 runoff by Resolution 25-58 after City Clerk Tracey Kimbrell confirmed receipt of the official canvass. Councilmember Walker moved the resolution; Councilmember Daeke seconded. The minutes record unanimous approval.
Judge J. Henry Banks administered the oath of office to City Manager Paylor Spruill earlier in the meeting as part of the formalities surrounding the employment contract and other governance actions.
All three measures were adopted by recorded unanimous vote in the minutes; no amendments or conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes for these items.
