Roosevelt County certifies Nov. 5 election with 6,666 ballots; two FWABs and one provisional counted

The Roosevelt County Canvass Board on Nov. 12 finalized the county tally from the Nov. 5 general election, approving a canvass report that counts 6,666 total ballots cast.
Clerk Mandi Park presented the figures: "There were a total of 6,666 ballots cast, of those 6,626 were machine tallied, and 40 were hand tallied," and she said one provisional ballot and two eligible Federal Write-In Absentee Ballots (FWAB) were included in the final count; a third FWAB was ineligible because the voter was not registered in Roosevelt County. Park said 468 absentee ballots had been requested and 428 were returned. The county recorded 503 same-day registrations and a voter turnout of 57.24% of eligible voters.
The board recessed at 11:44 a.m. to convene as the Canvass Board and, after reviewing the submitted materials, voted unanimously to include the eligible FWABs and the provisional ballot in the official count, bringing the certified total to 6,666. The motion to approve the canvass report passed 5-0.
The clerk also noted that two ballots discovered in drop boxes belonged to other counties and were transported to the proper county for counting. The canvass proceeding was brief; the board returned to the regular commission meeting at 11:50 a.m.
