Roosevelt County commissioners reject payment for state land‑office easement amnesty

The Roosevelt County Commission voted against a motion to approve payment of state Land Office easement amnesty fees at its Dec. 3 meeting, with Commissioners Roy Lee Criswell, Tina Dixon and Rodney Savage opposed and Commissioners Paul Grider and Dennis Lopez in favor.
Commissioner Tina Dixon, who said she will meet Dec. 13 with county and state Land Office representatives, outlined reasons other counties decline to join the amnesty program and urged caution. Commissioner Paul Grider moved to approve payment of the amnesty easements; Commissioner Rodney Savage seconded. The motion failed 3–2 after roll call votes.
After the vote, Commissioner Savage moved to postpone a planned fence project on North Roosevelt Road AV until the easement issue is resolved; the commission unanimously approved the delay. The fence project will remain on hold pending the county's decision about participation in the Land Office amnesty program.
The commission did not adopt a final policy at the meeting about whether to participate in the amnesty program; Dixon said she seeks more information under RS24‑77 and will report back after the Dec. 13 meeting.
