Roosevelt County commissioners reviewed outstanding construction and operational issues at the county fairgrounds during the June 13 special meeting and said the contractor will be held to the standards in the original architect contract.
County Manager Annette Kirk told commissioners she had met with contractor representatives (Nixon Construction), Mr. Spinks, and architects from NCA Architects about work that needs to be completed or redone. The commission said NCA Architects will provide Nixon Construction with a final punch list of items that must be corrected to meet the project’s original specifications.
Commissioner Paul Grider and Commissioner Criswell both noted the arena is serviceable for the Little Wrangles event scheduled that weekend but flagged infrastructure and operations issues that pose limits for larger, multi-day events. Commissioner Criswell identified RV power outlets and water hookup problems and said reservations and scheduling policies must be clarified so event organizers can plan reliably.
Community member Kam Knight said the arena surface and grounds were "outstanding" and that she had spoken with other event producers interested in booking the venue, but she flagged the lack of a dedicated tractor operator and the need to clarify who is authorized to operate shared equipment. Manager Kirk said the available tractor is shared with the road department, which complicates availability for fairgrounds preparations.
No formal action was taken on the fairgrounds item; commissioners asked staff to work with the architect and contractor to produce the punch list and to develop clearer scheduling and equipment-use procedures for future events.
