Commission approves HCAP payments, indigent burial and receives FY25 report

The Roosevelt County Commission recessed into a Healthcare Assistance Program (HCAP) board session during its Aug. 5 meeting and approved recommended indigent claims and an indigent burial payment.
Special Programs Coordinator Carla Weems presented seven indigent claims totaling $5,598.07 and recommended paying four claims totaling $2,881.07 while denying three claims totaling $2,717.00 — Weems said two of the denied claimants were brought in by the Portales Police Department and one had Medicaid at the time of service. Weems also presented a Wheeler Mortuary indigent burial claim for $1,000 dated July 8, 2025. Commissioners approved the recommended claims and the burial payment in unanimous votes.
Weems presented the FY25 HCAP annual report: no claims were paid in quarter one; claims paid were $6,318.80 in quarter two, $210.73 in quarter three and $23,002.71 in quarter four, totaling $29,532.24 for the fiscal year. The commission approved the HCAP actions as presented and returned to the regular meeting.
