Roosevelt County commissioners unanimously approve 2025 local election canvass, accept one provisional ballot

Roosevelt County commissioners unanimously approved the formal canvass of the 2025 regular local election during a special meeting on Nov. 12, 2025, accepting a provisional ballot and adopting the county clerk’s canvass report.

County Clerk Mandi M. Park presented the canvass to the five-member body, reporting that the absentee board met Nov. 5, 2025, and that 227 absentee ballot applications were issued and mailed. Of those, 147 absentee ballots were returned before 7:00 p.m. on election night; two absentee ballots were rejected as undeliverable and six ballots were spoiled, Park said. She also reported one request for a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB), 10 ballots returned via secure drop box, and 62 same-day registrations processed during early voting and on election day, most of which were address updates.

Park told commissioners that a single provisional ballot, issued during early voting at the courthouse, was hand-tallied and recommended for inclusion in the official results. She also noted one unopened, unvoted ballot was returned by a voter’s spouse after the voter’s death and "that ballot can't be counted," a statement recorded in the canvass presentation.

Commissioner Paul Grider moved to convene the board of canvass at 9:01 a.m.; Commissioner Roy Lee Criswell seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to proceed. After reviewing the clerk’s report, commissioners voted to adjourn the canvass at 9:09 a.m. and, later in the meeting, approved the canvass report by unanimous vote (Commissioners Grider, Criswell, Dixon, Parker and Munoz recorded Yes votes). Clerk Park asked commissioners to remain after adjournment to sign certificates of election for each candidate.

The clerk told the board that no races met the threshold for an automatic recount and that necessary re-checks will be conducted later in the year as required. The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
