Roosevelt County jail holds 63 detainees; MAT program serves 10, detention administrator says

Detention Administrator Shayla Ramsey reported to the Roosevelt County Commission on Nov. 18 that the county detention facility had a count of 63 detainees that morning — 8 female and 55 male — including 16 housed on behalf of other jurisdictions.
Ramsey told commissioners that the county billed Quay County $45,500 for October, billed Cannon Air Force Base $5,425 and billed Chaves County $10,850; billing for a recent detainee from Guadalupe County was pending. She said the facility is fully staffed with one deputy in training at the academy and that the peer‑support position has been converted to a care coordinator role.
Ramsey said 10 participants are enrolled in the facility’s medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) program; all 10 receive individual and group counseling and participate in program activities, and two are receiving medication as part of MAT. She also reported that two detainees are currently taking GED classes.
Sheriff Javier Sanchez separately reported that deputies took 81 reports during September and October and made 16 arrests for various crimes; the Sheriff’s Office completed a traffic grant and is preparing an application for the next funding round.
Commissioners did not take action tied to the detention report at the Nov. 18 meeting; Ramsey’s remarks were presented as a departmental update.
