Inspection: Roosevelt County detention center described as 'very clean and quiet' during annual tour

Before the regular meeting on Dec. 16 commissioners and staff conducted the annual detention-center inspection. The walkthrough began at 5:00 p.m. and concluded at 5:32 p.m., according to meeting minutes.
Those listed as attending the inspection included Commissioners Paul Grider, Roy Lee Criswell, Tina Dixon, Fabian Munoz and Malin Parker; Clerk Mandi Park; Detention Administrator Shayla Ramsey; MAT Program Coordinator Kitsa Thornton; Sgt. Cassidy and Officer Fleming. The tour visited intake, the MAT program classroom and counseling area, the outdoor recreation space, kitchen and laundry, medical area and master control, where commissioners observed larger, updated monitors and a broader view of the facility than in prior years. The inspection concluded back at intake with a demonstration of a body scanner.
Meeting minutes report the facility was "very clean and quiet" and note that staff and some detainees were praying over dinner; the minutes say those not participating were respectful. Detention Administrator Shayla Ramsey invited commissioners and staff to a staff Christmas party scheduled for the next week.
County Manager Meadow Forget said she will submit the inspection minutes to NMC for inclusion in the facility's accreditation file.
