Camp Verde council cuts FY26 Community Outreach fund to $20,000; forms subcommittee to set distribution plan

The Camp Verde Town Council on Jan. 21 heard reports from FY25 Community Outreach fund award recipients and set direction for the FY26 distribution after reducing the allocation.
Town Manager Miranda Fisher summarized the FY25 awardees and said staff needed direction on FY26 distributions. Recipients in attendance described their use of prior awards: Corbett Stone, pastor of Calvary Chapel, said funds were used to help residents in need and was asked to notify staff when the award was fully expended; Erin Mabery, executive director of The Station on 6th, described services to residents of Camp Verde and nearby communities; Candra Faulkner, president of the Camp Verde Senior Center, said funds paid for new windows; Dan Maya, representing the 7th Day Adventist Food Bank, said funds helped install an accessible concrete pad; and Pam Barton of Home for New Beginnings discussed data collection on homeless youth and a new Teens in Action program.
Mayor Marie Moore said the FY26 Community Outreach fund would be reduced from $50,000 to $20,000 and suggested exploring use of funds for emergency assistance after major tragedies. Town Attorney Trish Stuhan advised that establishing community assistance funds and emergency-relief programs is common and explained legal approaches to implementation. Council reached consensus to form a subcommittee to evaluate FY26 distributions once funds are available and directed staff to assess creating an emergency fund for the FY27 budget; Fisher said staff intends to release applications promptly with a possible award date of May 2027.
No formal vote was required to set direction; Council provided policy direction and instructed staff to return with program design details for future consideration.
