Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners approve reappointments, funding and discuss county projects in work session

At the Aug. 6 regular meeting and the Aug. 26 work session, the Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approved several routine items and reviewed operational updates.
On Aug. 6 the board approved reappointments to the Industrial Development Authority, voting to reappoint Linda Beck and Walter Miller to five-year terms expiring June 30, 2029. The commission also unanimously approved a renewal and funding request from the county 4‑H program and accepted a DOT roundabout relocation grant. A listed budget-amendments item was tabled.
The commission considered a conditional-use permit for 110 Stagecoach Road and voted to table the matter until Dec. 3, 2024, or until judgment is reached; Commissioner Damon Hoyte abstained from that vote.
At the Aug. 26 work session, Justin Brown, chief ranger for Georgia Forestry, delivered an annual report (July–June), saying the county participates in forestry protection at $0.10 per acre covering about 34,000 acres and that the county logged one wildfire in the period. Department heads reported on recreation registrations, a permit for Magnolia Grove, hydrant repainting and staffing needs. County Manager Thomas Weaver said a sewer grant application was not awarded, payroll outsourcing is being implemented, a roundabout project remains on schedule for early next year and the county is reassessing vehicle lease renewals under the enterprise program.
What passed and what’s next: board minutes show the listed approvals were unanimous unless otherwise noted; the budget amendment was tabled for later consideration. Several work-session items were placed on the Sept. 3 regular-meeting agenda for formal action.
