The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County on Sept. 3 adopted its 2024 tax-levy resolution, setting the county maintenance-and-operation millage at 8.512 mills and the school maintenance-and-operation millage at 16.99 mills, for a combined ad valorem tax levy of 25.50 mills.
The resolution lists the components used to calculate the county millage: a maintenance-and-operation figure of 23.57 mills reduced by a local option sales tax rollback of 15.06 mills (and an insurance premium tax rollback listed as 0), yielding the stated county millage of 8.512. The resolution directs the county clerk to transmit a certified copy to the Tax Commissioner and to publish the levy as required by law.
The motion to adopt the resolution was offered by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas; the clerk recorded the vote as unanimous among present commissioners. The record shows Commissioners Charles Coffey (chair), Timothy Biddle (vice chair), Frost and Douglas voting; Commissioner Damon Hoyte was absent from the Sept. 3 regular meeting.
The adopted levy will be used in computing 2024 property tax bills. The commission did not amend the rollbacks listed in the resolution; the clerk will handle statutory notifications and certification to the tax office as prescribed by state law.
