Resident questions code-enforcement citation after driveway dirt washes onto Massey Road

At the Oct. 1 meeting of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners, resident Teresa Parrish raised a complaint about a warning she received for dirt from her driveway that washed onto Massey Road.
J.D. Abercrombie, speaking on Parrish’s behalf, said the citation was issued Sept. 13 — a day with heavy rain — and questioned why enforcement officers issued warnings that day rather than waiting for repairs. Abercrombie said crews cleared the driveway after the notice and asked how many similar driveways received warnings on the same date.
County Manager Thomas Weaver replied that roughly 10 driveways received warnings that day and said warnings are the county’s formal way to notify property owners of hazardous conditions found when roads are inspected. “We do what we can with the resources we have,” Weaver said, explaining crews prioritize making roads passable after storms and return later to finish work.
Chairman Charles Coffey told residents that warnings are a courtesy and noted the county can issue citations on the spot; he said staff do their best given limited equipment, and Commissioner Jason Frost added that the county’s motor grader had been unavailable for repairs, which constrained response time.
No formal action or change to enforcement policy was taken at the meeting; the board discussed the complaint during the open forum and moved on to the regular agenda.
