Cusseta–Chattahoochee County holds hearings on proposed 8.512 millage rate

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the proposed rate is effectively unchanged from last year and said the county's gross digest increased by just under $64 million. At both hearings, no members of the public spoke on the rate, which the county has advertised and placed on its website with a five-year digest history.
At the Aug. 26 work session, Weaver reiterated that the proposed rate tracks last year’s and reminded commissioners that the school district’s rate is set separately at 17.30 mills. He said a called meeting had been used to provide time for required public notice and that adoption of the millage would appear as a voting item on the commission’s next regular meeting agenda.
The hearings followed the county’s assessment schedule and a sales-ratio study the manager characterized as ‘‘on track.’’ County officials encouraged residents to inspect the tax digest in person or request copies for review.
Next steps: commissioners scheduled a formal vote on the millage rate at an upcoming meeting, and county staff said they would finalize and publish the tax digest records used to compute the levy.
