The plan cites the Georgia ACE Act (SB 402) and the Georgia Broadband Deployment Initiative as policy frameworks. It reports 1,174 locations with fixed broadband service, about 1,011 locations encumbered by grant commitments (USDA, ARPA, FCC RDOF and similar programs) and 118 locations still unserved as of the December 2024/June 2024 data layers included in the plan.
Why it matters: the plan says broadband at or above the state benchmark (100 Mbps down/20 Mbps up) is necessary for telework, education and business development. County officials recommend early adoption of a broadband element within the comprehensive plan to position the community for BEAD and other competitive grants.
The plan names likely grant recipients and providers (Charter/Spectrum, Flint Electric/Conexon Connect, Public Service Telephone Company) and shows a map layer identifying remaining unserved locations (red dots). It calls for continued facilitation of deployment to the remaining 118 sites and for encouraging service improvements in low-speed areas.
