CUSSETA — The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County on Feb. 4 voted to carry out several administrative actions, including opening a 2025 SPLOST bank account and creating a Public Safety Director position.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the SPLOST bank account; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded and the motion passed without recorded opposition. The commission also approved an LMIG (Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant) change to move the Riverbend Road nomination to Friendship Road and approved reappointments to the Planning & Zoning Board for Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown.
“Those items were routine and in line with the recommendations from staff,” County Manager Thomas Weaver told the board during the meeting.
Commissioners also voted to create a Public Safety Director position (motion by Commissioner Gerald Douglas, seconded by Commissioner Biddle). The board recorded no opposing votes on that motion.
An employee termination appeal was presented and required no further action. The commission later recessed into an executive session for legal matters; Chairman Charles Coffey said after the closed meeting that the topics discussed were within the exceptions to the Open Meetings Act and that no votes were cast during the closed session.
The meeting opened and closed routine business quickly; minutes for the Jan. 7 regular meeting, Jan. 7 executive session, and Jan. 27 work‑session and executive session were approved (motions generally moved by Frost and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas). Several approvals in the minutes votes were noted with Commissioner Timothy Biddle abstaining on items related to meetings he said he had been absent from.
What's next: Approved personnel and administrative motions will advance to the county’s implementation process; the new Public Safety Director position will require job posting and budget alignment through the county manager and human resources.
