The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission voted unanimously April 1 to adopt a set of midyear budget amendments reallocating $294,725 from reserve accounts to operating and salary lines.
The package of resolutions, each citing O.C.G.A. § 36-81-3(d)(1), moved funds to cover a property-tax reimbursement ($6,000), an increase to coroner salary funding ($30,000), legal expenses ($150,000), EMS salaries ($275,000) and the sheriff’s boarding-of-prisoners line ($200,000). The clerk’s summary shows net changes and a total amendment of $294,725 after offsetting line items and prior corrections.
County Manager Thomas Weaver framed the action as a bookkeeping and operational step to address known shortfalls: “We will have to make cuts,” he told the commission during the related budget discussion, noting ambulance revenue since startup and that some capital requests could be shifted to SPLOST. The amendments were moved, seconded and approved in a single series of motions recorded in the minutes.
In the same meeting the commission unanimously approved a National Donate Life Month proclamation recognizing LifeLink® of Georgia’s donor registry outreach and tissue-transplant work. The body also approved a calendar of upcoming budget hearings and a tax-refund request tied to an assessor correction.
The tax-refund item involved Parcel C05 0001 (116 Angelia Drive). The minutes record a motion to refund a total of about $38 with the county portion noted in the motion; the Board of Assessors’ paperwork attached to the minutes shows a corrected valuation and a refund calculation with a slightly different total. The commission’s vote approved the refund motion as recorded by the clerk; the assessor’s documentation is on file for the record.
All roll calls in the April 1 minutes are recorded as unanimous with Commissioners Charles Coffey (chair), Timothy Biddle (vice chair), Gerald Douglas, Damon Hoyte and Jason Frost voting yes where votes were taken.
