The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 22 to adopt final property-tax levy allocations for fiscal year 2023–24 under Resolution 2023-41.
The motion to approve the final levies was moved by Sherry Morrow and seconded by Timothy Higgins. Board members Morrow, Higgins, Myron Kouba, Daniel Lynch, Bill Maendele and Chairperson Ivan H. Klein voted “Aye.” Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz recorded an abstention. The resolution sets levy amounts and allocations for multiple political subdivisions as presented by the County Clerk.
The board also approved Resolution 2023-42, moved by Bill Maendele and seconded by Daniel Lynch, authorizing the County Treasurer to transfer delinquent personal-property taxes to inactive status where Distress Warrants have been certified and the amounts are deemed uncollectible. The resolution cites Neb. Rev. Stat. section 77-1738 and instructs that the inactive list be reviewed annually and reactivated if taxes are later found collectible.
County Clerk Heather A. Christensen’s office supplied the levy and tax documents that form the basis for both actions. The board recorded roll-call votes for each motion in the meeting minutes; both resolutions carried according to the recorded votes.
The board noted no immediate additional action deadlines in the meeting minutes; subsequent steps include recordation of the adopted levies and routine annual review of inactive tax lists.
