At its April 11 meeting the Buffalo County Board of Commissioners handled a range of routine and procedural matters: approving minutes and payroll, accepting reports, authorizing tax foreclosure actions, approving liquor license requests, confirming Board of Equalization valuation changes, making an appointment to a veterans committee, and deferring a hospital agreement and the county single audit for further review.
Key votes and actions: the Board approved the March 28 meeting minutes (motion by Timothy Higgins, seconded by Ronald Loeffelholz; Lynch abstained). The Board ratified April 7 payroll claims and approved an early claim. The Board approved a Class CK retail liquor license and manager’s application for Geo. Spencer Tasting Room, LLC (motion passed with one abstention by Bill Maendele). The Board also approved a Special Designated Liquor License for Village 1919 for an event at “The Farm” on May 13, 2023.
On tax matters, the Board adopted Resolution 2023‑22 authorizing County Attorney Shawn Eatherton to proceed with foreclosure on County‑owned tax sale certificates, citing Nebraska Revised Statutes 77‑1901 through 77‑1918. The Board of Equalization, convened at 9:49 A.M., approved Tax List Corrections numbered 4969–4971 and several valuation changes for listed parcels on motions moved and seconded with roll call votes recorded Aye.
Appointments and other items: Emergency Manager Darrin Lewis provided an update on the Two Way Secure Siren Warning activation project. The Board appointed Lisa Mitchell to the Veterans Service Committee to fill a vacancy through June 30, 2026. Representatives from CHI‑Good Samaritan attended to discuss an agreement but the Board decided to delay a decision; the Single Audit Report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2022 was also deferred to the April 25 meeting.
The Board adjourned at 10:27 A.M.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for April 25, 2023 at 9:00 A.M.
