Council appoints Dee Sanford as alternate planning commissioner

Dee Sanford, a 32-year Sunset resident and former Planning Commission member, was appointed as an alternate planning commissioner in a unanimous roll-call vote among members present.
At the Feb. 17 meeting, the Council appointed Dee Sanford as an alternate member of the Planning Commission. Sanford introduced himself, noting he has been a Sunset resident for 32 years and previously served on the Planning Commission about 20 years earlier. He said his earlier service emphasized promoting a walkable community and participating in field trips to study walkability; he observed that Main Street is now much more walkable than when he previously served.
Mayor Scott Wiggill welcomed Sanford, noting the City had adopted a form-based code intended to support walkable development. Council Member Nakisha Rigley thanked Sanford for his willingness to serve and moved to appoint him; Council Member Nancy Smalling seconded the motion. The appointment passed on a roll-call vote with Council Members Hunter, Rigley and Smalling voting yes.
Sanford will serve as an alternate planning commissioner and is expected to participate with the Planning Commission on matters related to the City’s form-based code and walkability initiatives.
