Gladwin County commissioners approve annual vice‑chair rule, appoint vice‑chair and pass routine county expenditures

Jail Administrator Matt McGourty won approval to send Sgt. Gruhzit to a Taser Instructor Course at Kalamazoo Valley Community College at a cost of $895, with mileage and meals to be split between two budget lines. Treasurer Christy VanTiem received permission to use the county credit card to reserve two hotel rooms for the 2026 Winter MACT Education conference at $326.34 per room on the tax reversion line. Deputy Administrator Melanie Thume secured approval for a Securitas technology upgrade for $855 and for a $3,500 repair to the courthouse generator after a water pump froze and failed during recent record low temperatures.
The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Michigan Mountain Bike Association and authorized Chairperson Karen Moore to sign the MOU. It also adopted Resolution 2026‑002 to appoint three Gladwin County members to the joint West Branch Community Airport zoning board.
The board approved the transfer of parcel 130‑015‑300‑011‑10 in Secord Township from the Four Lakes Task Force back to Gladwin County for $1. Commissioners discussed but ultimately tabled a proposal from Commissioner Tom Winarski to provide employees a letter showing the full employer cost of their employment; the board voted to delay the matter to allow payroll staff to evaluate feasibility.
