Gladwin County approves submission of grant phase 2 for Veteran's Honor Park; veterans director flags training-fund loss

The Gladwin County Board on April 22 authorized submission of phase 2 of the Gerstacker grant application to support the Veteran's Honor Park and heard a report from the county's veterans director about funding changes.
Kim Hines, reporting on the Gerstacker grant, asked that phase 2 be submitted to Senator Elissa Slotkin's office by Friday. Commissioner Tom Winarski moved to allow the submission and Commissioner Mike Visnaw supported the motion; the board approved the request.
Veterans Affairs director Ken Roberts provided an update on his office's ability to help veterans and said the training fund grant previously used to pay for his yearly certification "is now gone and will not be coming back," meaning he will need to budget for those trainings in the future. Roberts expressed appreciation for Kim Hines' work on funding and grants for the Veteran's Honor Park.
Next steps: phase 2 of the Gerstacker grant will be submitted as authorized; administrative follow-up will track any additional grant or fundraising steps for the park and the Treasurer/Administration will be involved as needed.
