Gladwin County moves to seek new auditor and files 2024 audit with Treasurer oversight

The Gladwin County Board of Commissioners approved an RFP to solicit proposals for audit services and allowed the county to file its 2024 audit with specified Treasurer oversight at the April 22 meeting.
Deputy Administrator Melanie Thume presented an RFP for audit services, noting the county had been with its current auditors for more than six years. Commissioner Tom Winarski moved to approve the RFP and Commissioner Alan Donaldson supported the motion; the board approved the action.
County Treasurer Christy VanTiem then presented the 2024 audit. Commissioner Tami O'Donnell moved, with Tom Winarski supporting, to allow the county to file the 2024 audit provided that any changes be highlighted and overseen by Treasurer VanTiem. The motion carried.
The board did not vote on a new auditor at the meeting; the RFP will solicit proposals and the county attorney and treasurer will review submissions as part of the procurement process. The filing of the 2024 audit will proceed with Treasurer oversight as the county highlights required adjustments.
Next steps include issuing the RFP to prospective auditing firms and review by county administration and counsel.
