Gladwin County okays lodging and training for sheriff’s recruits and deputies

The Gladwin County Board of Commissioners approved multiple public-safety staffing and training requests during its Feb. 25 meeting, including a lodging request to support recruits who will attend the academy in Washtenaw County.
Undersheriff Ray Hartwell told the board three new hires are scheduled to attend the Washtenaw academy in May and requested the county credit card be used to rent a VRBO for academy lodging at a total cost of $13,500; Commissioner Tom Winarski moved to allow the booking and Commissioner Mike Visnaw supported the motion, which carried.
Hartwell also asked the board to authorize sending Deputy Bussell to Basic Firearms Instructor training (May 12–16) and Basic Patrol Rifle Instructor training (May 19–22) at a reported cost of $1,100 plus meals and mileage to be paid from line 302-000-804.000. Commissioner Visnaw moved, Commissioner Winarski supported, and the board approved the training request with a unanimous roll call vote recorded in the minutes.
Separately, Dispatch requested approval to send Gary Ranes to a "911 Homicide" course March 11–12 at a cost of $375 including hotel, meals and mileage; the board approved that attendance and allowed use of the county credit card for payment.
The actions were recorded by motion in the minutes. The record includes roll-call votes on some training items; no dissenting votes were recorded in the minutes.
