Walker County Commission approves one-year bridge inspection contract with Wiginton

The Walker County Commission voted unanimously Jan. 20 to hire Wiginton Bridge Inspection Services for one year to perform all county bridge inspections.
County Engineer Glenn Peek explained that the contract will cover inspections countywide and supports ongoing work related to the federal SS4A grant and routine paving and striping projects. The motion to approve hiring Wiginton was made by Commissioner Jim Borden and seconded by Commissioner Steven Aderholt; the commission recorded unanimous aye votes and the chairman declared the motion carried.
Why it matters: regular bridge inspections are part of Walker County’s infrastructure oversight and help ensure the county meets inspection schedules tied to state and federal funding. Glenn Peek told commissioners the inspections fit into the county’s current project list, which includes SS4A-related work.
The commission did not discuss contract dollar amounts at the meeting and no amendment to the contract terms was recorded. The county engineer will proceed with contract execution and scheduling of inspections, subject to procurement rules and final contract signatures.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
