Fulton County approves HR manual change and designates veterans director full-time for state-assigned duties

FULTON COUNTY ' The Fulton County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 25 accepted a proposal from HR Administrator Mary Huston to amend Section 212 ("Employee Benefits") of the county HR Manual and approved a staffing change in the Veterans Affairs office that qualifies the director for full-time benefits.
Commissioners briefly met with Mary Huston to discuss potential changes to Section 212 and asked her to return with formal language for official approval. Later in the meeting, Commissioner Steven L. Wible moved to accept Huston's proposal to amend Section 212; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to permit Veterans Affairs Director Richard Newman to work the equivalent of 30 hours per week so that he would qualify as a full-time employee with benefits. The board recorded that additional duties had been assigned by the state related to the Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption as the reason for the change; the motion carried unanimously.
The HR manual amendment and the staffing classification change will be processed through county HR and payroll as part of normal administrative operations. The commissioners instructed Huston to bring final language and implementation details back for official records and any necessary follow-up.
