County Administrator Cindy Williams told the commission on Jan. 26 that Attorney Phil Eldridge had advised Danny Lee should be responsible for $4,579.32 in costs for demolishing and removing a mobile home abandoned on the roadway after his attempt to move it failed. Commissioner Weston Spivey moved to send an invoice to Lee, Commissioner Todd Brannon seconded, and the motion passed 3-0 with Commissioner Jeff Hatcher abstaining.
Williams also said Retirement Systems of Alabama had set the retirement salary threshold at $40,000 for 2026 and asked whether the commission wished to raise the Emergency Management Agency director's salary to $40,000 as budgeted. Commissioner Bart Wilks moved to increase the EMA director's salary to $40,000; Commissioner Brannon seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
Revenue Commissioner Mary Ann Ellison reported approximately 1,400 delinquent accounts totaling about $550,000 that her office is actively pursuing for collection. Ellison also raised an HVAC issue in her office; Chairman Seay said contractors and JMR+H are coordinating with Trane to resolve the problem.
What's next: the invoice to Danny Lee will be issued per the commission vote; the EMA director pay increase was approved effective immediately and is covered in the current budget, and revenue staff will continue collection efforts on delinquent accounts.
