Opioid grant update given; commission to consider recommendations next week

Lana Bellew briefed the Etowah County Commission on the Opioid Grant Program at the Feb. 10 meeting, saying the program received seven applications. Bellew said she reviewed and scored those applications and forwarded recommendations to the commission; the commission is scheduled to consider the recommendations at next week’s meeting.
Bellew also provided an update on the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) GROW grant. Commissioners praised the grant work and emphasized the need for appropriate reporting and oversight if funds are awarded.
Commissioner Craig Inzer thanked Bellew for her work and noted that when the county disburses grant funds it must ensure money goes to appropriate recipients and that reporting requirements are met. No formal vote on the opioid grant recommendations occurred at the Feb. 10 session; commissioners were informed that a vote is expected at the next meeting.
