Dale County awards three-year grounds-maintenance contract to Afford Lawn Care

The Dale County Commission voted Jan. 27 to award a three-year grounds maintenance contract to Daniel Pruitt, doing business as Afford Lawn Care, to service 10 county locations including the courthouse, jail, Ag Plex and animal shelter.

Commissioner Adam Enfinger moved to approve the contract and Commissioner Frankie Wilson seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The contract period is listed as Feb. 1, 2026, through Feb. 28, 2029, with monthly payments and specified mowing and irrigation schedules for irrigated (weekly in peak season) and non-irrigated sites.

The contract (Exhibit 2) assigns routine tasks including trash pickup before mowing, trimming, edging, shrub trimming and debris disposal, and requires the contractor to carry accident and liability insurance and maintain business licensing. The agreement allows either party to terminate with 30 days’ written notice.

The contract document contains inconsistent payment language: one line spells out "Twenty-Five Thousand Five Hundred and Forty Dollars and Zero Cents," while a separate numeric figure in the same document shows $28,250.00 as the annual amount. The commission record does not resolve that discrepancy; the contract was signed and entered into the minutes pending administrative follow-up.

The contract was signed on Jan. 21, 2026, by Daniel Pruitt (Afford Lawn Care) and acknowledged in the Jan. 27 minutes by Chairman Steve McKinnon. The agreement indicates the county will pay in 12 equal monthly installments and that the contractor must provide updated insurance certificates at award and annually.
