Commission reappoints 911 and MDA board members; Anniston EMS and Coosa Riverkeeper make brief remarks

The commission unanimously reappointed four members to the 911 Board and one member to the MDA Board at its Feb. 12 meeting.
Jonathan Gaddy announced expiring terms and the commission reappointed Gary Sparks (district 3), Chief Johnnie Phelps (district 4), Ken McElroy (district 5) and Van Roberts Sr. (at-large) to four-year terms on the 911 Board beginning March 1, 2026. The commission also reappointed Philip Smith to a three-year term on the MDA Board commencing March 1, 2026. Each reappointment was moved and seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote.
During public comments Johnny Warren, president of Anniston EMS, thanked the commission and shared information about Alabama House Bill 400, which affects ambulance providers. Richard Rybka of Coosa Riverkeeper announced a volunteer cleanup at Harts Ferry Park scheduled for Feb. 28. Chairman Patterson thanked Commissioner Howell for his nine months as commission chairman, and the commission adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
