The Calhoun County Commission on Jan. 22 unanimously approved a set of resolutions to proceed with public-nuisance abatements for 11 properties across Anniston, Jacksonville and Weaver, dismissed two previously cited nuisances and declared nine additional properties as nuisances.
Environmental Programs Manager Kraig Mize presented the lists and recommended the abatements and declarations. The commission voted without opposition to adopt the 11 abatement resolutions and to dismiss two nuisance cases. The dismissed properties were listed as 312 W. Blue Mountain (Anniston) and 98 Phoenix Drive (Anniston).
During the discussion about declaring additional nuisances, owner Michael Clarkson addressed the commission regarding ongoing remediation efforts at 1441 Lenlock Lane and requested additional time to complete work on his property. Jerri Flemming said she had recently evicted unauthorized occupants at 4415 Skyline Drive and is arranging to remove accumulated trash; Mize offered to meet with both homeowners to coordinate next steps.
Separately, Mize presented a nuisance-abatement invoice for 2045 Old Choccolocco Road (listed to John Taylor (Est) & Cathy Lynn Hopson) for $4,030.00; the commission approved payment by unanimous voice vote.
The resolutions and invoices are filed with the commission. Property owners were notified of the meeting; none of the listed owners for the 11 abatements were present except those who spoke during the nine-property declaration item. The commission’s actions impose county-directed abatement processes but do not in the minutes record any appeals or enforced timelines beyond the adopted resolutions.
