Hardeman County commissioners voted Oct. 21 to approve payment of a court judgment totaling $4,808,818.36 in the Sessions (Perry vs HCG) matter. County Attorney Dale Conder Jr. told the commission the judge entered an award for Mr. Sessions of $4,547,165.30 in attorney fees plus subsequent awards that raised the total owed to $4,808,818.36.
A motion by Hon. Cory Bufford, seconded by Hon. Johnny Weems, to approve the payment passed by roll call vote, 14 AYE, 2 NAY. Hon. David Bell and Hon. Jeff Kennamore were recorded as the two no votes. The payment was taken up as part of the meeting's attorney updates; county staff did not provide additional line-item funding details in the minutes.
Representative Shaw had earlier told commissioners that state officials would not provide resources to resolve the county's lawsuit and relayed the Governor's request that the county seek a peaceful settlement. The minutes record no on-the-record response to that statement during the meeting.
The commission also recorded a separate motion—made and seconded by Hon. David Bell and Hon. Jeff Kennamore—to authorize negotiations in the Luttrell case; that motion carried by acclamation. The commission set its next regular meeting for Nov. 18, 2025.
