Buffalo County board elects Ivan Klein chair, Sherry Morrow vice chair and publishes 2023 committee roster

At its Jan. 10 reorganization meeting, the Buffalo County Board of Commissioners elected Ivan Klein as chair and Sherry Morrow as vice chair, confirmed county depositories and named committee chairs and members for 2023.
Ivan Klein was unanimously elected chair of the Buffalo County Board of Commissioners at the board’s reorganization meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023. County Clerk Heather Christensen called for the vote after Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz nominated Klein and Commissioner Daniel Lynch seconded the nomination.
Commissioner Sherry Morrow was likewise unanimously elected vice chair after a nomination from Commissioner Lynch and a second from Loeffelholz. The board recorded roll-call votes for both elections.
The board approved a list of designated depositories for county funds — including First National Bank of Omaha, Cornerstone Bank, Exchange Bank, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Five Points Bank, Heartland Bank, NebraskaLand Bank, NFIT/Union Bank, NPAIT, Pinnacle Bank, Pinnacle Bank and Town & Country Bank — and authorized Treasurer Brenda Rohrich to invest county funds at those approved institutions.
Chairperson Klein announced a slate of agency and committee appointments for 2023, naming committee chairs and members across Budget & Finance, Facilities, Information Technology, Road & Bridge, Noxious Weed District, Human Resources/Insurance, Public Safety, Court & Judicial, Veterans Service, Zoning/Flood Plain, Extension/Agricultural Society, Election Commission, Legislative Committee, Ravenna Lake/Campgrounds Advisory, County Official Council and Law Enforcement Center Committee. Several appointments were designated as county representatives to outside boards, such as the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and the Buffalo County Economic Development Council.
The board approved the Dec. 27, 2022 meeting minutes and ratified payroll claims and early claims presented by the County Clerk during routine business. The meeting record notes that public notice of the reorganization meeting and a copy of the Open Meetings Act were posted in accordance with Section 84-1412 of the Nebraska Revised Statutes.
The board adjourned the reorganizational portion of its meeting and scheduled its next regular meeting for Jan. 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
