The Chelsea Planning Commission held a public hearing on Case 20260226003 (Webster rezoning) and voted to recommend the requested zoning change to the City Council.
Chair read the case details: the original parcel was about 17.28 acres on Highway 32 in Columbiana and the applicant (Reagan Wester) had sold 10 of those acres to Gary Walton, leaving a remaining parcel of about 7.28 acres. Staff explained that the remaining acreage falls below the 10-acre minimum for AR zoning and therefore must be rezoned to E-1 for a valid subdivision.
Gary Walton (speaker 3), who said he was purchasing the 10 acres, told the commission the sale was intra-family and that the purchase was intended to keep the land within the family and to help a relative in need. After hearing public comment and staff explanation, the commission made a motion to recommend the rezoning to City Council.
The commission's recommendation will be transmitted to the City Council for final action; the commission did not make the final zoning decision tonight.
