Board approves Rowe Sanctuary liquor license and reviews Nebraska Medicine correspondence

At its Oct. 8, 2024 meeting the Buffalo County Board approved a Special Designated Liquor License for an event hosted by Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary and reviewed multiple correspondence items from outside organizations.
Following review of the County Sheriff’s reports, Commissioner Bill Maendele moved and Commissioner Timothy Higgins seconded a motion to approve Special Designated Liquor License applications for an event to be held Oct. 25, 2024 at Rowe Sanctuary (44450 Elm Island Road, Gibbon). The motion passed with Aye votes from Maendele, Higgins, Kouba, Lynch, Morrow and Klein; one commissioner was absent.
Chairperson Ivan H. Klein also summarized correspondence from Nebraska Medicine, which provided an update on its Memorandum of Understanding related to participation in the federal 340B drug discount program and reported serving 2,820 Buffalo County patients in 2024 across more than 25,100 visits; the minutes record that approximately 3.6% of those patients were uninsured and 50.7% were on Medicaid or Medicare. The board also noted an email from Select Sprayers & Equipment requesting a speed limit reduction on Highway 30 from Keystone Road to Kearney (requesting 65 mph to be reduced to 55 mph and no-passing zones) and a NeDNR notice about possible eligibility for FMA Swift Current mitigation funds; the minutes do not record board action on those letters.
The Rowe Sanctuary liquor license approval authorizes the applicant to hold the designated event under county licensing rules; the Nebraska Medicine memorandum was received as correspondence and no vote followed on that item in the minutes.
