The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a package of routine fiscal items, including final levy allocations for Fiscal Year 2024-25, ratification of recent payroll, and payment of August vendor claims.
Commissioner Sherry Morrow moved and Commissioner Timothy Higgins seconded a motion to ratify payroll processed Aug. 23, 2024; the board approved the ratification by roll call. The board also approved a transfer of $71,461.76 from the Recovery Zone Bond Fund (3800) to the Road Fund (200) after a motion by Morrow and second by Maendele.
In a separate motion the board adopted Resolution 2024-38 to set final levy allocations for the county and various political subdivisions for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The record indicates the motion carried; the minutes contain an internal roll-call inconsistency for one commissioner (see audit note), but the board declared the motion carried.
County Clerk Heather A. Christensen presented the vendor claims, which the board approved on motion. The claims list filed with the minutes includes routine operating payments and several larger items, including allocations recorded in the claims listing as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) expenditures (for example, a Motorola Solutions entry recorded in the claims list as ARPA-funded). The claims approved encompass general fund, road/highway, visitor promotion, ARPA, and other county funds.
Chairperson Ivan H. Klein also read employee recognitions and presided over the swearing-in of Deputy A.J. Faz in the Sheriff’s Office. Commissioners reviewed correspondence and invitations from community partners, including an invitation from Children’s Nebraska Behavioral Health Urgent Care for a ribbon-cutting on Sept. 30, 2024.
Votes at a glance (formal approvals recorded in the minutes): - Approval of Aug. 13, 2024 minutes: moved by Timothy Higgins; seconded by Daniel Lynch; outcome: approved by roll call. - Payroll ratification (Aug. 23, 2024): moved by Bill Maendele; seconded by Timothy Higgins; outcome: approved by roll call. - Interfund transfer $71,461.76 to Road Fund: moved by Sherry Morrow; seconded by Bill Maendele; outcome: approved by roll call. - Resolution 2024-38 (final levy allocations): moved by Sherry Morrow; seconded by Timothy Higgins; outcome: adopted (see audit for a transcript roll-call inconsistency). - Vendor claims (Aug. 2024): moved by Sherry Morrow; seconded by Ronald Loeffelholz; outcome: approved by roll call.
The meeting adjourned and was set to reconvene at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.
