Planning commission asks for more demographic and school-enrollment data during comprehensive plan review

The Charlotte County Planning Commission reviewed Chapters 1 and 2 of the county's draft comprehensive plan at a work session on June 28, 2022, and asked staff and the Commonwealth Regional Council for additional demographic and school-enrollment information.
Chairman Andrew Carwile called the work session to order at 6:30 p.m. and turned the meeting over to Todd Fortune, deputy director of the Commonwealth Regional Council, who reviewed the two chapters and sought input on comments previously submitted by county staff. Commissioners and staff recommended several clarifications, expansions and corrections to the draft chapters.
Commissioners specifically inquired about whether the plan's demographic section should include the Amish population. Fortune recommended he would work with county staff to develop a plan to obtain additional data on that community. Commissioners also requested expanded information on school populations to include private school attendance and homeschooling figures if those data are available.
Because of time constraints, the commission postponed discussion of the public survey and related outreach materials until the July work session to allow staff and the regional council to refine the survey and supporting documents. The next work session was scheduled for July 26 at 6:00 p.m. The work session was then adjourned.
The session record lists County Administrator Dan Witt and Assistant County Administrator Monica Elder as staff in attendance; no formal motions or votes were recorded during the meeting.
