The Charlotte County Planning Commission on Oct. 25 recommended that the Board of Zoning Appeals approve a variance to allow the creation of a one-acre parcel intended for donation to the Red House Volunteer Fire Department for use as a helipad.
Staff reported the variance request from Lawrence Lambert involves a parcel in the northwestern part of the county; Lambert indicated the parcel would be donated to the Red House Volunteer Fire Department and designated for a helipad. During the meeting, commissioners discussed the variance and the intended public-safety use.
Committee member Patrick Andrews moved to recommend the Board of Zoning Appeals approve the variance with the stipulation that the newly created parcel be specifically designated for use as a helipad. Committee member David Watkins seconded the motion; it carried with all voting members present supporting it.
Staff also reported that the Board of Zoning Appeals had previously denied a separate variance request from Bobbie Brooks on Sept. 28. The recommendation from the planning commission is advisory to the Board of Zoning Appeals, which will make the final determination.
