Buffalo County approves budget transfers, payroll and vendor claims

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on June 25 approved several fiscal measures intended to close the 2023–24 fiscal year and fund county operations.
Board member Daniel Lynch moved and Board member Timothy Higgins seconded passage of Resolution 2024-26, which directs a $75,000 transfer from the General Miscellaneous budget to the Jail budget to address a departmental budget overrun. The resolution passed by roll call with Lynch, Higgins, Kouba, Loeffelholz, Maendele and Chairperson Ivan H. Klein voting Aye; one commissioner was absent.
The board also approved transfers from the Inheritance Fund totaling $2,375,000: $500,000 to the General Fund, $1,750,000 to the Road Fund and $125,000 to the Weed District Fund. Those transfers were moved by Bill Maendele, seconded by Daniel Lynch, and approved unanimously by the members present.
Earlier in the meeting the board ratified payroll claims processed June 14 and approved June 2024 vendor claims as submitted by the County Clerk. The minutes record payroll and benefit totals for multiple funds (general, road and weed) in the consent paperwork; detailed vendor claims appear in the official claims listing filed with the County Clerk.
The board also authorized routine administrative items, including allowing the Nebraska Association of County Officials to facilitate printing of joint public hearing postcards and authorizing Chairperson Klein to sign an Interlocal Agreement with Educational Service Unit 10 for maintenance and webhosting for the 2023–24 fiscal year. Contract updates for Schneider Geospatial were likewise approved.
All motions recorded in the minutes were adopted by roll call with the six attending members voting Aye. The measures take effect as part of the county’s closing-year budget adjustments.
