Buffalo County proclaims National Police Week and Emergency Medical Services Week, demonstrates new warning system

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on May 14 adopted two proclamations honoring law enforcement and emergency medical services and observed a demonstration of a newly operational outdoor warning system.
Commissioner Daniel Lynch read and the board adopted Resolution 2024‑21 proclaiming May 12–18, 2024 as National Police Week. Sheriff Neil Miller and members of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office were present as the resolution recognizing the service and sacrifices of law enforcement officers was approved on a roll call motion.
Commissioner Bill Maendele read a separate proclamation designating May 19–25, 2024 as Emergency Medical Services Week (Resolution 2024‑22). The proclamation noted that volunteer emergency medical services squads in Buffalo County responded to 1,195 calls for service in 2023. Local EMS representatives in the room included Gibbon EMT Michelle Eutsler, Ravenna Paramedic Peg Dethlefs, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department member Nate Tof, Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department member Angie Kucera and Elm Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue member Carol Jorgensen.
Emergency Manager Darrin Lewis demonstrated a newly operational secure outdoor warning system, which he described as having improved capabilities for alerting the public. The board recorded the proclamations and noted the demonstration for county emergency preparedness planning.
The board also recognized several county employees for years of service during the meeting.
