Buffalo County approves $759,990 in motor grader purchases and awards Extension Building addition bid

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on May 14 accepted bids to buy two new motor graders and approved a construction bid for an Extension Building addition, officials said.
Highway Superintendent John Maul presented bids and the board approved purchase of a 2024 John Deere 770GP motor grader for $378,990 and a 2024 Caterpillar 150 motor grader for $381,000. The Caterpillar price includes an $8,500 parts credit and a $5,750 Basic Customer Service Value Agreement. The motion to accept the bids was made by Commissioner Bill Maendele, seconded by Commissioner Myron Kouba and carried on a roll call vote.
Facilities Director Stephen Gaasch opened bids for the Extension Building Addition from DTC Duncan‑Theis Construction, Central Contracting Corporation and On Point Construction Management. Gaasch recommended awarding the contract to DTC Duncan‑Theis Construction contingent on approval of an interlocal cooperative agreement with the Agricultural Association for a parking‑lot improvement. The board approved the award on a motion by Commissioner Sherry Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Timothy Higgins.
The board also opened bids for a jail portable radio project from Sunny Communications and Rocky Mountain Communication Systems; the Sheriff’s office will review those proposals and return recommendations at the May 28 meeting. Separately, the board accepted a vending machine services bid from Ripp Industries to serve Ravenna Lake after review by Deputy County Attorney Andrew Hoffmeister.
The equipment purchases and construction award were recorded as motions and carried by roll call vote. The county clerk will include contract details in the next meeting packet and the interlocal agreement must be finalized before work on the parking improvements begins.
