The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday proclaimed April 14–20, 2024 as "National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week" and honored the Shelton High School boys basketball team for winning the Nebraska state championship.
Chairperson Ivan H. Klein read the proclamation during the April 9 meeting in Kearney and presented an Achievement Award to Coach Will Reutzel and players Luke Gillming, Ashton Simmons, Gerry Romero, Ben Meyers and Riley Bombeck. The board adopted Resolution 2024-11 on a roll call vote with five "Aye" votes and two members absent.
The resolution text read into the record recognized telecommunicators as the vital link between 9-1-1 callers and emergency personnel and extended the board's appreciation: "we owe a great debt to the men and women who, by applying their expertise in telecommunications, help to make that achievement possible." Chairperson Klein publicly thanked the dispatchers in attendance for their service.
Sharon Hueftle, executive director of the South Central Economic Development District, filed SCEDD's 2023 annual report with the county clerk during the same portion of the agenda.
