Buffalo County commissioners approve $1.27 million land purchase and $100,000 inheritance-tax payment

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 29, 2023, approved two actions at an emergency meeting: a $1,270,000 purchase agreement for three lots in the Original Town of Kearney Junction (now part of the City of Kearney) and payment of a $100,000 late vendor claim from the county's Inheritance Tax Fund.
Vice Chairperson Sherry Morrow moved to authorize Chairperson Ivan H. Klein to sign a Purchase Agreement negotiated between Buffalo County and Rodney L. Rasmussen and Lonna L. Rasmussen to purchase Lots 1500, 1501 and 1503 for a total of $1,270,000.00; Commissioner Daniel Lynch seconded the motion. The five commissioners present — Morrow, Lynch, Myron Kouba, Ronald Loeffelholz and Ivan Klein — voted "Aye" on the motion; Commissioners Timothy Higgins and Bill Maendele were recorded absent. The motion was declared carried.
The board then considered a late vendor claim submitted by the County Clerk for Nebraska Title Company. Commissioner Daniel Lynch moved to approve the claim, to be paid from the Inheritance Tax Fund in the amount of $100,000.00; Commissioner Myron Kouba seconded. The same five commissioners present voted "Aye" and the motion carried.
County Clerk Heather A. Christensen recorded proceedings. Buffalo County Sheriff Neil Miller, County Attorney Shawn Eatherton and Deputy County Attorney Andrew Hoffmeister were present at the meeting. Chairperson Klein announced that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the board room in accordance with Section 84-1412 of the Nebraska Revised Statutes.
After the votes, Chairperson Klein asked if there was anything further and declared the meeting adjourned sine die at 1:09 P.M. He instructed the County Clerk to publish notice for the board's reorganization meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at 9:00 A.M.
