Regional planners present updates to comprehensive plan chapters; VDOT comments to be addressed

Representatives of the Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC) presented updates to Chapters 6 and 7 of Charlotte County’s draft comprehensive plan during an Aug. 17 work session, and commissioners suggested minor language changes and clarifications.
Lauren Jones of the CRC reviewed changes to Chapter 6, describing updates made after the June work session. Commissioners recommended several small revisions to goals, objectives and strategies that CRC staff said they would incorporate.
Todd Fortune of the CRC then presented a draft implementation plan in Chapter 7. Commissioners requested that CRC remove a specific example of road damage in Halifax County and instead retain a general caution about potential roadway impacts from solar project construction—shifting from a named-case example to broader language about infrastructure risk.
Fortune reported that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) submitted comments on the Transportation Plan in Section 3; CRC will work with VDOT to address those comments and update the commission at the next meeting. The commission scheduled the next comprehensive plan work session for Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m., then adjourned.
The CRC and county staff will incorporate the requested edits and follow up with mapping and VDOT coordination ahead of the Sept. 21 session.
