Fulton County commissioners reaffirm public defender's 40-hour salary, approve payroll and accounts payable

Fulton County commissioners unanimously approved routine administrative items and reaffirmed the Public Defender's salary structure at their Feb. 17, 2026 meeting.
Commissioner Steven L. Wible moved to approve the Feb. 10, 2026 commissioners' minutes; the motion carried with Commissioner Randy H. Bunch, Commissioner Steven L. Wible and Commissioner Hervey P. Hann voting in favor. Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to approve payroll dated Feb. 20, 2026, totaling $126,643.71 and to approve accounts payable dated Feb. 17, 2026, totaling $115,002.69. The board also read the accounts-payable allocations across funds, including $87,536.62 to the General Fund and smaller amounts to Liquid Fuels, 911, Law Library and other funds.
Earlier in the meeting the board met with Public Defender Phil Harper and Administrative Assistant Cheryl Deshong to review office matters, including hours worked in conjunction with the Indigent Defense Grant. After that briefing Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to reaffirm that the Public Defender's salary will reflect a 40-hour-per-week schedule effective Jan. 1, 2026; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting record shows the board handled these personnel and financial items without dissent. The session continued with additional contract and procurement votes later in the agenda.
